Membership application procedure

This page contains general instructions, links to required forms, and extended descriptions of some of the items on the forms.

Membership Payment On-line

A. Follow the link to our Online Store.

 Go to the On-line store

B. Fill out the on-line membership application/renewal form.

C. You will then be directed to a secure web site to make your credit card (MasterCard, Visa) payment. An electronic receipt will be issued. Full instructions are provided.

Membership Payment by Mail

A.  Download a Membership Form (PDF). To download a free Adobe Acrobat Reader for PDF files, click here.
 Download the fancy form. This form enables you to type information, then print out the completed form.

 Download the plain form. This form must be printed first and then filled out by hand.

B. General Instructions for Completing the Membership Form

Provide full identification information. Please use your institutional address if possible.

 Choose the correct Membership Category and enter the appropriate dues into the space provided.

Ordinary: Any person interested in the study of zoology is eligible to apply for ordinary membership.
Student: Any person who is interested in the study of zoology and is a student at a university. Two-year memberships can be purchased at a reduced rate.
Post-doctoral: Any person, within 5 years after receiving a Ph. D., who is interested in the study of zoology and is occupying a position which could normally be considered that of a post-doctoral fellow. Two-year memberships can be purchased at a reduced rate.
Emeritus: Any ordinary member in good standing may, upon retirement form a professional position, become an emeritus member.
Associate: A person interested in the field of zoology but who does not hold a research position in a university or a government or industrial laboratory and is not a graduate student. Upon application to the Executive Committee of Council, institutions (libraries, natural history societies) may be granted associate membership.

Indicate any donations you wish to make to the Zoological Education Trust. The Zoological Education Trust is a registered charity (BN 88756 3864 RR0001) and a receipt for income tax purposes will be issued.

Fry Award: sponsors the Fry Medalist, selected as outstanding biologist of the year.
Hoar Award: is for the best student paper at the annual meeting.
Murray Fallis Award: is for an outstanding student presentation in parasitology at the annual meeting.
Brian Hall Award: is for an outstanding student presentation in comparative morphology and development at the annual meeting.
George Holeton Award: is for an outstanding student presentation in comparative physiology and biochemistry at the annual meeting.
Cas Lindsey Award: is for an outstanding student presentation in ecology, evolution and ethology at the annual meeting.
Leo Margolis Fund: supports student research in fisheries biology.
General Support Funds: sustain the Battle Award for best student poster at the annual meeting, and other activities of the Trust.

• Indicate any NRC Journal subscriptions you are making and enter the appropriate amount in the space provided.

• Add up the total amount owing.

• Indicate whether you are paying by cheque or credit card.
  If paying by cheque, make the cheque out to the Canadian Society of Zoologists.
  If paying by credit card, please provide all the information requested, including credit card number, expiry date, name of the card holder, and your signature.

• Identify which section (or sections) you wish to be affiliated with.
  Sections within the Society have been established for the purpose of furthering the study of a particular area within the field of zoology.
  Membership in sections is free and you may be a member of more than one section if you wish.

• Indicate whether you want to be included in the annual membership directory, and whether you wish to receive a paper copy of the Bulletin.

If you wish to order the Journal of Experimental Biology, at member rates, go to the web site of the Company of Biologists. Follow their instructions for ordering as a society member. When asked for society and membership ID, indicate Canadian Society of Zoologists, and as ID use the number from the receipt you receive from the Treasurer after you pay your dues. Do not send forms or payment to the CSZ Treasurer. Deal directly with the Company of Biologists.

B. Instructions générales pour remplir le formulaire d'adhésion.  

• Fournir l’information complète d’identification personnelle. Veuillez utiliser l’adresse de votre institution si possible.
• Choisir la catégorie de membre applicable et entrer les frais appropriés dans l’espace fourni.
  • Régulier : Toute personne intéressée à l’étude de la zoologie peut s'inscrire comme membre régulier.
  • Étudiant : Toute personne intéressée à l’étude de la zoologie et qui est un(e) étudiant(e) dans une université (signature du superviseur requise). Des adhésions de deux ans sont disponibles à un taux réduit.
  • Post-doctoral : Toute personne qui a complété son doctorat depuis 5 ans ou moins, qui est intéressée à l’étude de la zoologie et qui peut être considérée comme un(e) chercheur(e) post-doctoral(e) (signature du superviseur requise). Des adhésions de deux ans sont disponibles à un taux réduit.
  • Émérite : Tout membre régulier actif peut, après sa retraite professionnelle, devenir membre émérite.
  • Associé : Une personne intéressée à la zoologie mais qui ne détient pas un poste dans une université, dans un gouvernement ou un laboratoire industriel et qui n’est pas un(e) étudiant(e) gradué(e). Le Comité Exécutif du Conseil peut permettre l’adhésion d’institutions (bibliothèques, sociétés d’histoire naturelle) qui en font la demande.
• Indiquez les dons que vous désirez faire au Fonds d’Éducation Zoologique (FEZ). Le Fonds d’Éducation Zoologique est un organisme charitable enregistré (BN 88756 2864 RR0001) et un reçu pour fins d’impôt sera émis pour toute contribution.
  • Prix Fry : Finance le ou la médaillé(e) Fry, sélectionné(e) en tant que biologiste exceptionnel(le) de l’année.
  • Prix Hoar : Meilleure présentation étudiante à la réunion annuelle.
  • Prix Murray Fallis : Attribué à une présentation étudiante exceptionnelle en parasitologie à la réunion annuelle.
  • Prix Brian Hall: Meilleure présentation étudiante en développement et morphologie comparés à la réunion annuelle.
  • Prix George Holeton: Meilleure présentation étudiante en physiologie et biochimie comparées à la réunion annuelle.
  • Prix Cas Lindsey: Meilleure présentation étudiante en écologie, évolution et éthologie à la réunion annuelle.
  • Prix Léo Margolis : Bourse de recherche pour étudiant(e)s en biologie des pêches.
  • Fonds de support général : Finance le Prix Battle pour la meilleure affiche étudiante à la réunion annuelle et les autres activités du FEZ.
• Indiquez les publications du CNRC auxquelles vous vous abonnez et entrer les frais appropriés dans l’espace fourni..
• Additionnez le total dû.
• Indiquez si vous payez par chèque ou par carte de crédit.
  • Si vous payez par chèque, faites votre chèque à l’ordre de la Société Canadienne de Zoologie.
  • Si vous payez par carte de crédit, veuillez fournir toute l’information demandée, incluant le numéro de votre carte de crdit, la date d’expiration, le nom du titulaire et votre signature.
• Identifiez à quelle section (ou sections) vous désirez être affiliés.
  • Les sections de la SCZ ont été créées afin de poursuivre l’étude de domaines particuliers de la zoologie.
  • L’adhésion aux sections est gratuite et vous pouvez être membre de plus d’une section.
• Indiquez si vous voulez être inclus dans le bottin, et si vous souhaitez recevoir une copie de papier du Bulletin.
