Area of Research: We are looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow interested in conducting collaborative research on the effects of carbon dioxide on the growth and physiology of fish in an aquaculture setting. Primary research interests are in understanding the effects of high carbon dioxide and interactions with diet to reduce stress and improve the survival, growth and feed efficiency of lake whitefish in wild and cultured settings. Most of the research will be conducted at the Ontario Aquaculture Research Centre in Elora, Ontario (the project is in collaboration with Dr. David Huyben, University of Guelph).
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
• The selected candidate will work on a collaborative project to determine the effects of carbon dioxide and diets on the metabolic rate, muscle strength, immune response, and growth of fish.
• The candidate will be responsible for the conceptualization, execution, communication, and dissemination of aquaculture related research.
• Collaborate closely with Project PIs to conduct an aquaculture trial.
• Participate in regular meetings with the research team to share progress and insights, discuss findings, and refine the research objectives and methodologies.
• Data Management: Organize and maintain research data related to the project.
• Analyze and synthesize research findings from various sources to identify key trends, data types, methods, and gaps in the existing literature.
Qualifications:
• PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., animal physiology, aquaculture).
• No more than 5 years post-PhD at the time of start date.
• Experience conducting physiological measures (e.g. metabolic rate, PCR, nutritional analyses, fatty acid composition analysis etc) on fish is required.
• Experience working on an aquaculture project/setting is a plus.
• Experience with caron dioxide exposures is a plus.
• Experience in performing fatty acid composition analysis is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience in preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-review publications / journals relating to aquaculture research.
